When I think of someone who truly manifest the spirit of Pan-Africanism, one name comes to my mind, Miles Henderson. He is the founder of the True Culture University Ecosystem, a platform that connects Black students across the globe, and he is also an advocate for justice, unity, and opportunity. His impact has been deep especially here in Ethiopia where his work has reshaped how we, the youth see ourselves and our place in the world. Ethiopia has a unique cultural narrative. Many here often separate themselves from Africa, identifying as "Habesha" and seeing it as a distinct race. Growing up, I struggled with this disconnect. And after I joined university I felt a deep frustration because it seemed like we weren’t claiming our African identity fully and it felt like an uphill battle to inspire others to think differently. But then I became involved with True Culture University Network, and everything changed.

Through this network, Mr. Miles has created opportunities that I could never have imagined. He didn’t just preach about Pan-Africanism through True Culture, he lived it. For example, he offered me the chance to serve as a subcommittee member for the International Civil Society Working Group for the People of African Descent, representing the Ethiopian region. As an International Relations student with a passion for Africa, this opportunity meant everything to me. It wasn’t just about the title or the experience, it was about someone recognizing my potential, my passion, and giving me a platform to make a difference. That’s the kind of person he is. He looks at what you can do and gives you the chance to rise. Through his leadership, initiatives like the African writing course and entrepreneurship programs have opened doors for so many of us, preparing us with the skills and confidence to engage with the world as proud Africans.

What’s even more remarkable is how he has inspired hope. Before joining the True Culture University Club, I thought it was impossible to shift the mindset of those who refuse to identify as African. But being part of this movement and seeing the effects of his work has changed me. I’ve seen my fellows find pride in their African roots and dream of a united continent. And that’s why I believe he is the right person to serve as a forum member at the UN’s Permanent Forum on People of African Descent. If he can inspire and empower us with limited resources, imagine what he can do with the platform and reach of the UN. He understands the challenges of being young, African, and ambitious in a world that often overlooks us. He has the vision and the determination to bring us together, to amplify our voices, and to ensure that the dreams of our generation are heard and realized.

This isn’t just about qualifications, it’s about heart. It’s about someone who genuinely cares, someone who doesn’t just see problems but works tirelessly to solve them. Mr. Miles Henderson has already transformed the lives of so many Ethiopian youth, including mine. I have no doubt that as a forum member, he will do the same for people of African descent across the globe.

He is the leader we need, the voice we deserve, and the hope we’ve been waiting for.
